We know orthodontic care comes with questions — and at Wang Smiles, we’re here to answer them all. From braces and Invisalign® to payment plans and timing, here’s everything you might be wondering, all in one place.
Getting Started
What age should my child first see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial check-up by age 7. Early evaluations don’t always lead to early treatment, but they help us spot potential issues and create a proactive plan.
Do I need a referral from my dentist to schedule a consultation?
No referral is needed! You can contact us directly to schedule — whether for yourself or your child.
What happens at the first visit?
Your first visit includes a warm welcome, a clinical exam, 3D imaging and scans, and a personalized consultation with Dr. Wang. You’ll leave with a clear treatment plan, cost estimate, and answers to all your questions.
Braces & Treatment Options
What types of braces do you offer?
We offer metal braces and clear ceramic braces (for minor cosmetic cases). Each option is designed to meet different needs and preferences — Dr. Wang will guide you to the best fit.
What is Invisalign® and how does it work?
Invisalign is a series of custom, clear aligners that gently shift your teeth into place. They’re removable, comfortable, and nearly invisible — perfect for teens and adults who prefer a low-profile option.
Am I too old for braces or Invisalign?
Never! We treat many adult patients. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age.
How long will my treatment take?
Treatment time varies depending on your case. On average, braces take 12–24 months and Invisalign takes 12–18 months. Quick Braces can be completed in as little as 6–9 months for eligible patients.
Technology & Imaging
Do you take traditional impressions?
We do if patient prefers it! We use iTero® digital scanning — no messy trays or goop. It’s fast, comfortable, and more precise.
What kind of imaging do you use?
We use i-CAT® 3D cone beam imaging and iTero digital scans. These provide detailed visuals of your teeth, roots, jaws, and bite to help us plan the most effective treatment possible.
Finances & Insurance
How much does treatment cost?
Treatment costs vary depending on the complexity and type. We’ll provide a transparent estimate during your consultation — no hidden fees, ever.
Do you accept my insurance?
We accept most major orthodontic insurance plans. Our team will verify your benefits and handle all the paperwork to maximize your coverage.
Comfort & Care
Will braces or Invisalign hurt?
Some mild discomfort is normal during the first few days or after adjustments, but it’s manageable and temporary. We’ll guide you through it with tips and reassurance.
What if something breaks or feels wrong?
Call us! We’ll walk you through next steps and schedule an appointment if needed. Emergencies are rare, but we’re always here for you.
Can I still play sports or instruments with braces?
Absolutely. For sports, we recommend a custom mouthguard. Instruments may require a short adjustment period, but you’ll adapt quickly.
After Treatment
Will I need to wear a retainer?
Yes. Retainers are essential for maintaining your results long-term. We offer Essix, Vivera, and fixed options.
What happens if I lose my retainer?
No worries — it happens! Contact us as soon as possible so we can create a replacement before any shifting occurs.
